ACC Starts Access Granted Program

Alvin Community College is now working with local industry and the Workforce Solutions to create the Access Granted program, which provides free job training for those interested in the pipefitting and welding fields.

Workers interested in joining the oil and gas field can apply for a spot in the program by contacting the Workforce Solutions offices.

There is an ever-increasing need for new welders as the industry is seeing a rapid pace of retirements. The average age of a welder now is 55 years. U.S. Labor Department projections show the number of welding jobs will increase by 15 percent over the next 10 years.

The Pipefitting program will take five weeks to complete while the Welding program will take 14 weeks to finish.

There are 82 slots open in Pipefitting and eight available for Welding.

Classes will begin on July 7.

For more information about the programs, call assistant grant coordinator Tricia Park at 281-756-5714.
