ACC to Host Empty Bowls Auction

ACC to Host Empty Bowls Auction
To help provide food for local residents, the Alvin Community College Art Department will host an auction of handmade pottery as part of its Empty Bowls Program on March 6.
Pottery made by ACC students and staff along with community leaders and elected officials will be sold during the event. Proceeds will help benefit the Alvin Meals on Wheels program.
“The Alvin community college art department is happy to be a part of the Alvin meals on Wheels organization,” said Fine Arts Chair Dennis LaValley. “Thanks to local artists, professors, students,  and ACC staff, collectively we have made over 250 handmade ceramic bowls for donations to benefit the program.
Alvin Meals on Wheels was started in 1975 and provides meals to more than 50 people throughout Alvin, Manvel and Liverpool. More than 200 volunteers currently assist in delivering the meals.
“Alvin Meals on Wheels was pleased that the ACC Art Department selected our organization to be the beneficiary of their Empty Bowls Project,” said Andy Tacquard, Alvin Meals on Wheels President and ACC board member. “We are excited about the event and hope it will be successful by raising much needed funds to support our cause.”
The Art Department received a $1,000 Innovative Initiative Grant from the ACC Foundation to support the Empty Bowls program.
“We sincerely appreciate the ACC Foundation awarding a grant to purchase the supplies for the bowls,” Tacquard said.
ACC employees also raised $314 for the Meals on Wheels program with a raffle during the employee Christmas luncheon.
Tacquard said the auction event will serve as an important benefit for both Meals on Wheels and the college Art program.
“I believe this event will help promote the Art Department and also bring awareness of the need to help certain individuals in our community,” he said.
The auction will be held at the Nolan Ryan Center starting from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 281-756-3506.
