ACC Regents Hear Update on Student Services

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents reviewed information about improvements in Student Services during their meeting on March 22.
Vice President of Student Services Marilyn Dement presented information regarding increases in Financial Aid, renovation projects, registration process and more.
“All of these have been achieved and we are continuing to make additional progress,” Dement, said.
Over the past year the department has seen the remodeling of the testing center, the overhaul of the college application process, adjusting the registration time frame, the implementation of new software and a reduction of wait times for student advising.
Many of the staff members in Student Services were also instrumental helping those impacted by Hurricane Harvey with the opening of a food pantry.
In other action, the board heard a report about the progress of the five-year Strategic Plan. The plan, which launched in 2016, includes strategies to become a data-driven organization, facilities planning, marketing of the college, program improvements and meeting demands of the local workforce.
The report included information on action plans developed by staff members to ensure implementation of the six goals.
Regents also:
-voted to approve a grant application for Nursing equipment and upgrades
-heard a report on enrollment data
-voted to approve monthly financial reports
The board will have its next meeting on April 26 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
