ACC Foundation Receives Grant

The Alvin Community College Foundation received an $87,000 grant from the Rebuild Texas Fund to assist students in their continued recovery from Hurricane Harvey.

The funds will be used for long-term rebuilding efforts in the wake of the storm. The ACC Foundation is one of many organizations to receive grants from the $100 million Rebuild Texas Fund, which was created by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation in collaboration with the OneStar Foundation.

The grant is awarded based upon six different needs:  community and economic development; health; housing; education and childcare; transportation and workforce; and capital for small business, with a special focus on serving low-income communities and their most vulnerable members.

The Foundation will use the funds to issue scholarships to students in need while also establishing a child care assistance program to allow students with children to attend courses.

“This grant is a vital contribution to the ACC community as there are still students and staff members impacted from the storm,” ACC Foundation Executive Director Wendy Del Bello said.

Harvey caused historic flooding in the region in August 2017 and in response, the ACC Foundation has raised more than $60,000 in donations through its ACC Student and Staff Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to address the needs of those affected.

The donations have helped students with the purchase of school supplies, textbooks and more.
