ACC Regents Receive Update on Tax Note Project

Construction management firm AGCM Inc. updated Alvin Community College regents on the progress of the infrastructure and renovation projects at the Alvin campus.

The firm is currently working with ACC faculty and staff to collect information about the campus and will start planning for the projects in January. Work on infrastructure that is considered urgent is scheduled to start sometime in the first quarter of 2019.

The improvements are part of the $25 million in maintenance tax notes approved by regents in August. The tax notes will fund upgrades to aging infrastructure on campus including the replacement of water lines, roof repairs, HVAC equipment, electrical, security and more. Many of the facilities on the ACC campus are more than 50 years old and are in need of improvements to critical system.

In other action, regents also approved the tuition and fee schedule for the 2019-20 fiscal year. The tuition rate will stay the same at $46 per semester credit hour for in district students, $92 for out of district students and $140 for out of state students. The Technology Fee was increased by $1.

Some students may also pay an optional adjusted fee for an e-book pilot program starting next year. The fee will be used towards the purchase of an e-book.

Vice President of Instruction Dr. Cindy Griffith delivered an update on the college’s 10-year accreditation reaffirmation process. The college will have a site visit in 2020 from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Faculty and staff members are currently conducting a self-study as part of the reaffirmation process.

Regents voted to de-obligate $17,821 that was previously allocated for the construction of a softball fieldhouse. The funds were put into the General Service Fund to be used for other projects.

Regents also:
