AISD STEM Fair Winners

AISD STEM Fair Winners

More than 60 Alvin Independent School District high school and junior high students participated in the 23rd Annual Alvin STEM Fair at the Alvin Community College Gym on Feb. 7.

During the science fair, students competed in individual and team categories: Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space, Engineering, Environmental and Plants, Math and Computer Science and Physics. The Fair categories were expanded this year to increase participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields.

In addition to students receiving awards for first through third place and honorable mentions, three overall winners were announced and each awarded a $200 scholarship to ACC.

Ronald McNair Junior High School student Julian Esquito won first place in Engineering for his project A Practical Application of Ohm’s Law.


Shadow Creek High student Nakita Singh won the Biology category for his project An Efficient Way to Sanitize Washers and Dryers.


Ronald McNair Junior High student Angel Rodriguez won won first in Physics for her project Thermal Powered Flashlight.

The funds for the scholarship are provided by the college.

Biology – First place, Nikita Singh, An Efficient Way to Sanitize Washers and Dryers, Shadow Creek High; second place, Shaivi Peddada and Gabriella Mayoral, Age vs. Flexibility, Ronald McNair Junior High; third place, Alexander Tol, Gel Electrophoresis, Ronald McNair Junior High; and honorable mention, Abdullah Cheema, How Does Mass of Celery Change After Being Put in Different Solutions? Shadow Creek High.

 

Chemistry – First place, Angel Rodriguez, When Do Enzymes Stop Working? Ronald McNair Junior High; second place, Christian Chirayl, When Must It Rust? Ronald McNair Junior High; third place, Christian Batty, Dissolution, Fairview Junior High; honorable mention, Ethan Wiltz, Is Betty Crocker the Better Bet? Nolan Ryan Junior High; Madeleine Tran, Plastic: Does It Leach? Ronald McNair Junior High; and honorable mention, Natalie Geren, Nickel Plating, Fairview Junior High.

 

Earth and Space – First place, Korrigan Wright, Kinzi Middleton, Sofia Trevino, Sunny Days, Fairview Junior High; second place, Melodie Duhe, Sophia Grisso, Chase Linney, The Tectonic Trio, Fairview Junior High; and third place, Ana Garza, Braeson Poperszky, Black Holes, Fairview Junior High.

 

Engineering – First place, Julian Esquito, A Practical Application of Ohm’s Law, Ronald McNair Junior High; Dustin Lozano, How Will Wind Turbine Power be Affected by the Number of Blades? Fairview Junior High; and third place, Esther Thomas, Flood Alarm System, Ronald McNair Junior High.

 

Environmental and Plants – First place, Prisha Verma, Michelle Chen, Pearland Air Quality: Inside Out, Nolan Ryan Junior High; second place, Anna Singh, Probiotics for Plants, Nolan Ryan Junior High; Layla Nguyen, What Material Will Work Best in Blocking  Floodwaters? Ronald McNair Junior High; honorable mention, Ava Abraham, The Effect of Caffeine on Plant Growth, Nolan Ryan Junior High; and honorable mention, Drew Rosetta, How Fire Ants Took Over Texas, Ronald McNair Junior High.

 

Math and Computer Science – First place, Ali Muharemovic, Is Blockchain Secure Enough for Financial Transaction? Rodeo Palms Junior High.

 

Physics – First place, Ishan Patel, Flyingliders, Nolan Ryan Junior High; Rylan Hobbs, Madelyn Stancil, Dish Wizard, Fairview Junior High; and third place, Alexis Belcher, Hydraulic Robots, Manvel Junior High.
