ACC Regents Approve Contract for New President

Alvin Community College Regents approved a 3-year contract for incoming president Dr. Christal Albrecht during their meeting on March 27.

She was named the lone finalist for the president position at the February 27 meeting. Regents offered Albrecht the contract after a 21-day waiting period.

Albrecht will begin work at the college on May 19. She will be the college’s fifth president following Dr. Allbright, who is exiting the college after serving 38 years as president.

Albrecht will receive a base salary of $195,000 per year.

Dr. Albrecht is currently campus president at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) Kent Campus. She has been an FSCJ campus president since January 2011. Dr. Albrecht served as the campus president at Pima Community College-Desert Vista Campus in Arizona from 2008 to 2011 and as vice president of Student Learning at Lone Star College-Cy Fair from 2000 to 2007.

She was chosen as the new president from more than 40 applicants.

In other action during the meeting, the ACC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa granted Dr. Allbright with an honorary membership to the honor society. The group wanted to recognize Dr. Allbright for his constant support of the organization on campus.

Lead adviser Lynn Henderson told the regents that ACC Phi Theta Kappa received nine awards at the Texas Regional Conference on February 27 – March 1. The Mu Epsilon chapter was recognized in several areas for Outstanding Officers/Members, Outstanding Advisors as well as Chapter Awards.

Regents approved the tuition and fee amounts for 2014-15. Tuition for credit students at the ACC campus will remain the same. Dual credit students at Alvin, Manvel and Living Stones high schools will pay a $30 registration fee plus other course fees if required starting next year.

ACC students at Pearland, Dawson, Turner and Danbury high schools are currently paying registration fees but will also begin to pay course fees next year.

Students enrolled in Continuing Education, Distance Education and some technical programs will see some fee increases.

Regents also approved contracts for administrative, professional and full time faculty members for the 2014-15 school year.

The board also approved hiring a grounds equipment operator, a purchasing cooperative contract with the Texas Association of Community Colleges and monthly financial reports.
