Group Health Insurance
Employees may enroll in HealthSelect of Texas, a point of service plan, allowing the member to select a physician of their choice or a primary care provider. Most employees will have a ninety-day waiting period before benefits become effective; however, you must make your enrollment choices within 30 days of the hire date. Enrollment in the health plan also includes $5,000 in life insurance.
In addition, employees may, at their option, elect dependent medical insurance. The state will pay 50% of the premium toward dependent coverage. The employee is responsible for the remaining premium.
Dental Insurance
The College pays the premium for dental insurance; dependent coverage is available for an additional premium paid by the employee. This coverage is optional, and you need not be enrolled in the group health plan to participate. There is no waiting period for coverage.
Two dental plans are available; a dental indemnity plan administered by the Government Employees Hospital Association and a dental maintenance plan (DMO) offered by Aetna. Dental indemnity is a traditional dental plan that allows members to select a dentist of their choice. Dental maintenance requires that members select from a list of approved dentists who are contracted by the corporation to provide dental services at a discount.
Optional Coverage
The employee may purchase additional life insurance, short-term disability insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, dependent term life insurance, vision insurance, long-term care insurance or elect to participate in TEXFLEX, our tax-saving plan for qualified health and childcare expenses.
Vacation and Sick Leave
Full-time employees earn one day of paid vacation per month. Vacation accrues beginning with the first full month of employment. Vacation time does not accrue during summer months.
Faculty members on 9 to 12 month contracts, who work a regular faculty schedule, do not accrue vacation.
Full-time employees receive paid sick leave at a rate of ten hours per month. Sixteen hours per year of sick leave may be used for personal business.
