Message from the President

Robert J. Exley, Ph.D. Alvin College plays a vital role in creating opportunities for people of all ages and career levels. We serve as an open door to education, workforce training and personal growth, helping students achieve goals that may have once seemed out of reach. Whether someone is a recent high school graduate, a working adult seeking a career change, a parent returning to school or a retiree pursuing lifelong learning, Alvin College provides flexible and affordable pathways to success.

In this edition of Right Now magazine, you will find several stories of students who came to Alvin College from all walks of life to further their education and careers. You’ll read about the Young family, a mother and her two children, who all graduated together at Spring Commencement. You’ll also read about Joel Alba, who recently retired from city government and found a new career path in CNC manufacturing.

Inspiring stories of students whose educational journeys were transformed through Alvin College can be found throughout this issue. The common theme in each journey is a deep motivation to build skills, pursue opportunity and open the door to a rewarding career.

Two of Alvin College’s greatest strengths are value and accessibility. Tuition costs are significantly lower than many four-year universities and our quality is high. This allows students to pursue higher education without taking on overwhelming financial burdens. The students featured in this issue took advantage of different instructional options designed to meet them where they are and make classes more accessible.

Alvin College works to meet workforce needs by offering career-focused programs and certifications in high-demand industries such as healthcare, technology, business, manufacturing and skilled trades. As you will read in Mr. Alba’s story, the college partners with local businesses and industries to ensure students are prepared for current workforce demands.

The college is proud to provide programs of study leading to two-year degrees as well as a limited, but growing, number of four-year degree options. We also remain devoted to excellence in preparing students to transfer successfully to four-year universities.

In our community, Alvin College strengthens local economies, empowers individuals and promotes lifelong learning. Our faculty and staff truly embody the belief that education must be accessible to everyone, creating opportunities that change lives and build stronger futures.

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Exley, Ph.D.
