Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)

Alvin Community College recognizes the benefits of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) in helping students reach their goals in a more efficient way. Additionally, the College is cognizant of the diverse ways in which students obtain knowledge and skills outside of the traditional classroom setting. The primary goal of PLA is to evaluate a student's knowledge and skill-set to be awarded college credit through alternative pathways such as national and local examinations, industry certifications and work experience, military training, articulation agreements and non-credit mirror course conversion.

PLA Requirements for Business Management 1301 Course

Any applicant requesting PLA credit for Business Management level courses must fully meet the following requirement: 

1. Resume + two professional references required.
2. Resume must show management or supervisory experience gained over the past five years. Must be recent (<5years) on the job experience from the time of application to qualify for PLA.
3. Part time experience may be considered at one year. PT= six month FT.    

Should an applicant successfully fulfill the above requirements, PLA credit shall be awarded for the following:

PLA Requirements for Business Management 2305 Course

Any applicant requesting PLA credit for Business Management level courses must fully meet the following requirement: 

1. Toastmasters Competent Communication (Certificate).

Should an applicant successfully fulfill the above requirements, PLA credit shall be awarded for the following:
