EMT Basic Certification
EMT -Basic
This first semester course is the foundation for a career in EMS. EMT's learn to provide basic life support on emergency scenes. Students successfully completing the first semester take the NREMT certification exam to become a Certified EMT.
EMT Admission Requirements
EMT Courses begin every semester. Qualified applicants are admitted according to space available. To be considered for admission into the EMT portion of the Emergency Medical Services Program, the applicant must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Have a VALID Texas Driver's License or Valid Texas Identification Card.
- Have a VALID Social Security card or Permanent Resident Card.
- Meet the functional and physical qualifications required to work as a Paramedic (See Above).
- Complete, in its entirety, the EMT application.
Courses needed to complete the EMT certification:
- EMSP 1160 - Clinical EMT Basic
- EMSP 1501 - Emergency Medical Technician – Basic

Career Opportunities
EMS Personnel are employed in a number of industries including private ambulance firms, local governments, hospitals, industrial/occupational safety, fire department EMS agencies, disaster/special rescue teams, special event/entertainment medic, and police/tactical.
